The mantelpiece of a 70-year-old Andover man is feeling the pressure after he won yet another golfing trophy and added a third to his yearly haul.

Richard Poyser proved that he is the best golfer in the Charlton Lakes Golf Community recently by winning the Charlton Golf League.

The 70-year-old was crowned ‘Champion Golfer’ and now holds three of the Charlton Lakes Golf Community trophies including the Valley Leisure Claret Jug.

Over the year, each golfer in the league plays an 18 hole match-play round against every other player. Two points are awarded to the winner with points being shared if the match ends in a tie.

Richard only lost two of his matches and halved one. He won all of his other matches putting him ahead of his nearest rival, Tony Sawford, by three points.

Last year’s winner, John Wass, surrendered the trophy to Rick after the competition.

The league is open to all members of the Charlton Lakes Golf Community, a project launched in 2014 to encourage golf in the community, regardless of age, gender or ability. For more information about the project go to
