Anton Rotary Club has donated £1,000 to leisure trust Valley Leisure to help fund two programmes for children with physical and learning difficulties.
The money is being split between 3Smiles and the assisted swimming programme, both run at Andover Leisure Centre.
A portion of the donation is also going to six-year-old Jacob Dodd and his mum, Adele, who are from Andover.
The Dodd family are receiving the money to help fund one to one summer care through 3Smiles at Andover Leisure Centre for Jacob who is profoundly deaf, and has dyspraxia and autism.
3Smiles is a club run by Valley Leisure specifically designed for children with disabilities and additional needs and their siblings. The club is designed to provide respite to parents as well as give children the opportunity to access a range of fun activities.
Adele Dodd said: “Jacob struggles with reading and writing, but at 3Smiles he gets to stay active and do the types of activities that he not only enjoys but is good at, such as swimming. At the club, Jacob can swim a length of the pool and take part in archery, trampolining and go on the inflatables.
“3Smiles is so important for us as a family. Not only does Jacob get the one to one care that he needs, as 3Smiles is local, it’s possible for me to go to work.
“If it wasn’t for 3Smiles, going to work would be difficult, especially over these summer months when Jacob is out of school,” she added.
Anton Rotary Club takes on a major project each year which involves the members either fund raising or physically contributing to improving the quality of life of a group within the community.
This year, in addition to the two nominated charities chosen by Anton Rotary Club, the members decided to give further donations to several other local Andover charities.
Barry Hawgood, president of the Anton Rotary Club said: “It is with much pleasure that the club is able to give £1,000 to Andover Leisure Centre’s charity, 3Smiles, to help parents and their children with physical and learning difficulties.”
Anton Rotary welcomes both men and women into its membership and more details are available on their website: www.antonrotary.org.uk or by contacting Barry Hawgood directly on 07867 848681.
