Coffee, cake and companionship is helping older people get back into fitness in Romsey.
Monthly open days at the Toning Centre in the Romsey Rapids Sport Complex and a recent coffee morning are showing older people the importance of staying active later in life.
The recent ‘Active Community Coffee Morning’ included a free Zumba Gold® taster class and an educational seminar called ‘Every Body Active in Later Life’.
It also gave people the chance to have a free ‘Health MOT’ which included an overall health check and flexibility, grip and balance tests.
Open days at the Toning Centre – on the first Friday of each month – are also designed to help older people to get back into fitness.
The Toning Centre is very popular with older people and people with restricted mobility or disabilities. It allows people to do light exercise with the help of power assisted machines.
The technology lets the person exercise with as little or as much effort as they like. And many also make new friends along the way.
The next Toning Centre open day is Friday 4th November from 10am – 11:30am.
People can also book a free seven-day pass to the Toning Centre by calling 01794 835568.
The recent coffee morning also raised money for Macmillan. Cakes made by staff and members were sold and £145 was collected by the end of the day.
