The Rapids in Romsey has been renamed to reflect the new and diverse facilities now available on the site.

The area is best known for the fun pool and attracts some 500,000 visitors a year. But the location is also home to many other facilities and has been renamed the Romsey Rapids Sports Complex to show the full variety of the local amenities.

Other than a swimming pool, the site has a state-of-the-art gym, studio classes, tennis and squash courts and adventure golf.

The complex also has, among other things, a spa, health and beauty treatment rooms and a toning centre designed as a gentle alternative to the gym, especially for older people or those with mobility issues.

Valley Leisure, the charitable trust that runs the complex on behalf of Test Valley Borough Council, said it hopes the name change will help more people be more active and illustrate there is something for everyone in the complex.

“We have something for every single person in the community, no matter of their age or ability and the variety on offer helps more people stay more active,” said Kevin Paterson, Valley Leisure’s chief executive.

He added: “Research has shown that people do more exercise if they don’t get bored. The range of facilities and our all-inclusive approach means people can go swimming one day, play tennis the next, and then do yoga and go to the gym at the weekend, all in their standard membership.”

Independent assessors said last year that the Romsey complex was one of the best-run sports centres in Britain. It was given an ‘excellent’ rating by Quest, the leisure industry assessors backed by Sport England.
