Kevin is an admitted Solicitor. Following a successful career in the private sector spanning law, financial services and consultancy, he joined Valley Leisure as CEO in 2010.
Kevin is passionate about the role of physical activity in community settings to promote positive physical and mental wellbeing.
Barry, our Finance Manager, is a finance professional spending most of his career in the telecoms sector working for Cable and Wireless and Vodafone and latterly for smaller fixed line operators. Barry joined Valley Leisure in February 2011.
Customer Operations Manager
Pete has worked for Valley Leisure for the last 20 years, with a successful track record of facilities, financial, Health and Safety and IT services management. He has managed four major facility refurbishment projects and two major IT rollouts alongside the regular responsibilities for Corporate maintenance, Health and Safety and IT. He is a keen Horseman, Skier and Scuba diver.
Joan Evans is a Human Resources management consultant and has experience in a variety of organisations including the SOLL Leisure Group, Abingdon and Witney Colleges and Clear Channel Entertainment UK Ltd. Joan is able to provide a rounded Human Resources profile to Valley Leisure in dealing with Strategic Planning, Employee Relations, TUPE, Payroll and operational issues. She also has a strong background in training and development.
Customer Engagement Manager
Chris has a degree in Sport Studies and Business, and has always had a passion in sports and fitness. Chris started his career with Valley Leisure back in 2006 at Knightwood Leisure Centre as a supervisor, and has worked his way up, becoming Customer Engagement Manager in September 2014. His ambition is for the Valley Leisure brand to become renowned for delivering a consistent and excellent service throughout Test Valley.
Customer Communications Manager
Lisa is a CIM qualified marketeer with a degree in Sociology and Information Systems. Lisa joined Valley Leisure in 2013 and is responsible for the Marketing and PR across all Valley Leisure sites. She started her career at Reuters (now Thomson Reuters) as an IT Trainer and Account Manager, before moving to Legal and General as a Campaign Manager for strategic partnerships. Lisa has also worked for local government as a Leisure Policy and Strategy Officer and is Company Director of a part time children’s performing arts school.
Board of Trustees
Valley Leisure is a charitable trust, which operates through a Board of Trustees. Our trustees are all volunteers, and play a leading role in ensuring the trust is a strong and commercially sound business and that our charitable objectives are achieved.
The trustees bring significant experience and expertise including financial management, marketing, human resources and leisure with demonstrable success in business at both national and international level.
Dr Keith Blacker
ChairmanKeith is a chartered accountant and spent most of his career working in the financial services industry. He has a doctorate in operations risk management, and was the former finance director at the Simplyhealth Group. Keith joined Valley Leisure as a trustee in 2007.
Nick BoneNick runs his own business providing specialist recruitment services. He is a keen sportsman with a particular interest in sport and the role it plays in developing healthy lifestyles. Nick joined Valley Leisure as a trustee in 2010.
Gavin Scott DuncanGavin has spent most of his career working in the healthcare, biotech and medical device sectors with a successful track record of managing challenging situations (both UK and International), including: start-ups, early stage businesses and company turnarounds. He holds a number of board appointments, both in an executive and non-executive capacity. He joined Valley Leisure as a trustee in 2010.
Kieran HumphreyKieran is currently Associate Director of Contracting at NHS South, Central and West Commissioning Support Unit, having joined the NHS in 2013. He has a wide contract management experience in the health, business process outsourcing and leisure industries having previously worked as both a leisure consultant and Senior Development Manager at Sport England. Throughout his career, Kieran has maintained a strong interest in sport and leisure development and has a keen interest and participation in cycling, cricket, squash and winter sports. He joined Valley Leisure as a Trustee in 2015.
Michael is a chartered accountant and spent much of his career in the professional services sector. He was elected chief executive of Grant Thornton in 2001 and was also a non-executive director of Grant Thornton International. In his various roles, Michael was responsible for strategic direction, leadership, development and management. Michael joined Valley Leisure as chairman in 2009. Michael is also a member of the Supervisory Board of the Prince of Wales’ Accounting for Sustainability initiate, a trustee of Age Concern (Southampton) and treasurer of a local football club.
Peter HornePeter has over 25 years of experience of working in the public sector. He spent 18 years in the Army as an infantry officer and then moved to the NHS in 2005, initially as a divisional operations director within London Ambulance Service. From there he spent time within the regional tier of the NHS before taking up a post within local commissioning organisations in Hampshire. He is currently director of system delivery for NHS Southampton City Clinical Commissioning Group.
Sarah Ford has been with Simplyhealth since August 2008 and is responsible for Corporate Communications, Brand and Insight across Simplyhealth. Her main challenge is to build Simplyhealth’s reputation as a brand that uses insight to deliver products and services that support positive health outcomes for consumers and employers. Sarah has an extensive marketing and communications background having worked in both the UK and Australia. She joined Simplyhealth after 10 years at British Airways where she undertook a variety of roles predominantly in the marketing and communications area.
Since joining Simplyhealth Sarah has reshaped the companies approach to retaining and building loyalty with customers through an integrated customer marketing communications strategy, implemented several strategic initiatives that have enhanced Simplyhealth’s focus on delivering great customers experiences and developed an Insight and Research framework that has provided Simplyhealth with greater understanding of its markets, customers and the wider world of health. Sarah is a keen sports fan and in her spare time enjoys running, swimming and travelling.
