From a variety of backgrounds including financial management, risk management, finance, health and customer services and with demonstrable success in business at both national and international level, all Trustees are volunteers, passionately committed to the ethos of the charity.

Gavin Scott-Duncan

Gavin Scott Duncan

Chairman

Gavin is an experienced executive and non‑executive director with a strong track record across the healthcare, biotech, nutrition and medical device sectors. He has led organisations through complex commercial challenges including turnarounds, restructures, management buy‑ins, start‑ups and the rapid growth of early‑stage businesses, combining strategic clarity with hands‑on operational leadership.

His career spans both UK and international roles, working with businesses ranging from innovative start‑ups to established global brands. Known for his ability to diagnose issues quickly and implement effective recovery and growth strategies, Gavin brings deep commercial insight across FMCG, B2B and high‑innovation environments, alongside several ongoing board appointments.

Gavin joined Valley Leisure as a Trustee in 2010 and contributes extensive governance experience, turnaround expertise and a pragmatic, solutions‑focused approach. His commitment to organisational resilience and sustainable impact supports the charity’s mission to serve the community effectively.

Andrew Preece

Trustee

Andrew brings more than 45 years of leadership and commercial experience from the construction industry, where he has held a range of senior management positions, culminating in his current role as National Business Development Manager at Roger Bullivant Ltd. Throughout his career, he has developed extensive expertise in strategic planning, operational management, business development and stakeholder engagement.

Alongside his professional career, Andrew has demonstrated a long-standing commitment to community organisations. He has been actively involved in local schools, fundraising initiatives and voluntary groups, and currently serves as Chair of Andover Rugby Football Club. He also supports the operation of a local fitness business as a company director.

As a Trustee of Valley Leisure, Andrew brings valuable leadership experience, commercial insight and a strong understanding of the role that community organisations play in improving health and wellbeing. His passion for helping local people live more active and fulfilling lives aligns closely with Valley Leisure’s mission to help people move more and feel better.

Joseph Munns

Joseph Munns

Trustee

Joseph is an experienced entrepreneur, business leader and marketing specialist with more than 25 years of experience across global corporations, start-up businesses and the not-for-profit sector. His career has included senior leadership roles at IBM, where he served as Chief of Staff supporting a European division of more than 2,000 employees, as well as founding and scaling several successful businesses.

As founder of Baked In, Joseph grew a kitchen-table idea into one of the UK’s leading home baking brands, employing more than 50 people and securing partnerships with major national retailers. More recently, he has focused on supporting growing businesses through consultancy and entrepreneurial ventures, including the golf-focused start-up Putting Edge.

Joseph brings expertise in business growth, digital marketing, e-commerce, strategic planning and organisational development. A passionate advocate for active lifestyles and community wellbeing, he is committed to helping Valley Leisure strengthen its reach, sustainability and impact across the communities it serves.

Roy Brown

Trustee

Roy is a highly experienced finance and business professional with a career spanning more than four decades. As Finance Director of LEE Filters, part of the Panavision Group, he helped guide the organisation through significant growth, supporting the business as it expanded from a £3 million operation to a turnover exceeding £20 million. His expertise covers finance, governance, strategic planning, audit, procurement, IT and organisational development.

Following his executive career, Roy established RLJB Business Consulting, where he supports small and medium-sized businesses with growth, financial management and strategic planning. He also serves as a Non-Executive Finance Director for EmpathyLab CIC, providing financial oversight and strategic support to a social enterprise focused on improving outcomes for children through reading and empathy education.

A lifelong resident of Andover with deep family roots in the town, Roy is passionate about supporting local organisations and improving community facilities. As a Trustee of Valley Leisure, he brings extensive financial expertise, strong governance experience and a commitment to ensuring the charity remains sustainable and impactful for future generations.

Sue Mills

Andrew Middleton

Trustee

Andrew Middleton is an experienced strategic leader with more than 40 years’ experience in management consultancy, corporate transformation and social impact. His early career included senior roles improving systems and performance for major blue‑chip organisations such as American Express and British Airways, where he specialised in solving complex operational challenges and shaping long‑term strategy.

He later moved into the charity sector, leading and developing national organisations and working closely with high‑profile stakeholders to deliver meaningful social outcomes. Drawing on this blend of corporate and nonprofit experience, Andrew founded I’m Not Done Yet (INDY), a community supporting people aged 50–70 to stay relevant, purposeful and economically active.

Having relaunched his own career at 66, Andrew is committed to challenging perceptions of ageing and empowering individuals navigating midlife transitions. As a Trustee, he brings strong governance experience, strategic insight and a deep commitment to helping organisations remain impactful, sustainable and people‑centred.

The day-to-day operation of the charity is managed by a skilled and dedicated team of Senior Managers. Together, with their complementary backgrounds and skillsets, they facilitate the delivery of the service and charitable objectives.

Chief Executive

Chris has always been passionate about the leisure industry, and in particular the customer experience and the benefits gained from leading an active and healthy lifestyle. Chris attained his degree in Sport Studies and Business in 2004 and soon after started working for Valley Leisure. Chris progressed through various roles within Valley Leisure and after 8 years was appointed as one of the Senior Managers being responsible for the service and revenue for the charity.

Having then gained further experience with the leading national operator of bowling venues, Chris returned to Valley Leisure in April 2019 as the Operations Manager and in 2020 promoted to CEO.

Liz Murray

Head of Active Ageing

Liz is a purpose-driven leader specialising in active ageing and social impact, with a passion for empowering people and communities to move more, feel better and live well for longer.

Throughout her career in the charitable and public sectors, she’s led strategies, partnerships and projects that bridge research, policy and practice – driving transformation that’s both evidence-based and innately human.

What motivates her most is helping others find confidence and purpose through movement and human connection – challenging age stereotypes and designing inclusive, creative ways to stay moving across the life course.

As a communicator and connector, she thrives on collaboration: uniting organisations and voices around a shared mission to make ageing active, visible and valued.

Ben Thambipillai

Centre Manager of Riverside Activity Zone

Ben has been with Valley Leisure since 2010, bringing over 15 years of experience across a variety of roles. Starting as an Activity Leader, he has progressed through both operational and management positions. With a background in law, Ben takes an analytical approach that has been crucial to the growth and success of the business. Most recently, he has led the development of the Riverside Activity Zone, supporting the long-term stability of Valley Leisure.

An accomplished trainer, Ben places health and safety at the heart of operations while maintaining a strong focus on customer service and retention. Known for managing the many aspects of a busy centre with confidence, he continually strives for improvements and new opportunities that benefit both the team and the wider business.

Ann Jones

Centre Manager of I Can Therapy Centre

Ann is a compassionate Manager at the I Can Therapy Centre, dedicated to delivering excellent service and empowering people to take positive steps towards better health and wellbeing, with a strong belief in the power of support, encouragement and community. Ann works tirelessly to ensure that everyone who comes through the Centre feels valued and motivated on their journey.

Having successfully completed her Level 3 Counselling Diploma, Ann continues to build on her knowledge and skills to support others with empathy, compassion and understanding. Outside of her professional commitments, she finds inspiration and balance through her love of travel, music and reading. These passions fuel her creativity, bring joy and reinforce the importance of connection, self-care and lifelong learning.

Driven by compassion and a commitment to growth, both for herself and for others, Ann strives to make a positive difference wherever she can.

Chelsea Alexander

Marketing Manager

Chelsea has been part of Valley Leisure for over 10 years, starting out as a Café Crew assistant. Since then, she has gained a deep understanding of the charity’s mission and community impact along the way.

Now Marketing Manager, Chelsea brings creativity, energy and a keen eye for design to every project. Having successfully completed both her Level 4 CIM Certificate in Professional and Digital Marketing and her Level 6 Diploma, she combines strategic thinking with creative flair to help Valley Leisure connect with its audiences in meaningful ways. 

Whether developing engaging campaigns or introducing fresh new ideas, Chelsea is passionate about creating impactful marketing that resonates with the community.
