A Brilliant Start for I Can Move More in Abbotts Ann

Jun 22, 2026 | Blog

On Saturday 13th June, we were delighted to bring I Can Move More to Abbotts Ann War Memorial Hall – and what a fantastic morning it turned out to be!

With the sun shining and a great turnout of residents, the session got off to a warm and welcoming start with tea, coffee and a well-earned bacon roll. It was the perfect opportunity for everyone to settle in, have a chat and connect with one another before the activities began.

Learning, Laughing and Moving Together

The morning featured a brilliant presentation from Liz, Head of Active Ageing, who shared insight into the importance of functional fitness – focusing on why staying active in everyday helps us remain independent, confident and able to enjoy life to the fullest.

From there, the energy in the room continued to build with a lively mental quiz, followed by a seated exercise session (set to the ever-popular Night Fever, which went down an absolute treat!). The session wrapped up with a competitive and fun game of ‘no beer’ pong, bringing plenty of laughter and friendly rivalry to the hall.

A Real Community Atmosphere

What stood out most throughout the morning was the atmosphere. Residents came together, socialised, and supported one another – exactly what I Can Move More is all about. It was wonderful to see so many people leaving with smiles, all commenting on what an excellent time they’d had.

What’s Next? Mobility MOTs Are Coming

Following the success of the trial session, we’re excited to be returning to Abbotts Ann War Memorial Hall on:

  • Saturday 1st August 2026
  • Saturday 15th August 2026

We’ll be offering Mobility MOTs – because if you MOT your car, why not MOT yourself?

These sessions will include a range of simple functional fitness tests designed to assess the key areas that help keep you moving well:

  • Strength
  • Stamina
  • Suppleness
  • Stability
  • Skill

It’s a great way to understand your current ability, track progress, and get personalised support to help you stay active and independent.

The Official Launch Begins This September

We’re also excited to announce that the official launch of the I Can Move More community club will take place weekly from:

  • Saturday 12th September 2026
  • 10am – 12pm

Building on the success of the trial, these regular sessions will continue to offer a welcoming space to socialise, laugh, move and stay mobile within the local community.
