Valley Leisure Secures National Lottery Funding to Expand Yoga for Wellbeing Support in Andover

We’re delighted to share some fantastic news. Valley Leisure has been awarded £19,976 from The National Lottery Community Fund’s Awards for All programme to continue delivering our successful Yoga for Wellbeing project in Andover.

This funding will enable us, through our I Can Move More programme, to deliver four free 12-week Yoga for Wellbeing courses over the next two years, supporting around 48 adults living with mental health challenges.

Supporting Mental Wellbeing Through Movement and Connection

Yoga for Wellbeing is designed specifically for adults experiencing challenges such as anxiety, depression, stress, grief and low mood. The programme also supports people who may be feeling socially isolated or at risk of experiencing a mental health crisis.

Each programme combines therapeutic yoga, guided relaxation and supportive group activities, giving participants practical tools to help manage their wellbeing, build confidence and create positive routines that support both their mental and physical health.

The sessions will take place in Andover and will be completely free to attend, helping to remove financial barriers at a time when many people continue to feel the impact of rising living costs.

A Safe and Supportive Space

The funding will cover specialist therapeutic delivery, project coordination, venue hire, equipment and programme resources, ensuring local people can access a welcoming and inclusive environment where they feel supported on their wellbeing journey.

Liz Murray, Head of Active Ageing at Valley Leisure, said:

“We are thrilled to have received this funding from The National Lottery Community Fund. Mental health challenges affect so many people in our community, and we know that accessing the right support at the right time can make a significant difference. This investment will allow us to continue providing a safe, supportive and inclusive space where people can improve their wellbeing, build confidence, connect with others and develop practical skills to manage their mental health.”

Making a Real Difference

The Yoga for Wellbeing programme has already shown the positive impact that community-based physical activity and social connection can have on mental wellbeing. Previous participants have reported increased confidence, improved resilience and better emotional wellbeing. Some have even gone on to take up volunteering roles and become more involved in their local community.

We are incredibly grateful to National Lottery players, whose support makes funding like this possible and helps organisations such as Valley Leisure continue delivering life-changing projects within our communities.
