The bowling league at Riverside Bowl is in full swing…

As they roll into week 5, anticipation mounts and excitement levels soar. Curious to know how your favourite singles team is doing? Look no further—below you’ll find the report from last week’s showdowns, written by Kevin:

Week 5 Update
Plenty of high scoring matches this week and an ever changing league table, where we have a new leader as Lee triumphed 8-0 over Ian D, which leaves Ian on 16 points but in 13th place (although he does have a match in hand). Lee meanwhile sits top on 24 points, joined by Kevin, who overcame a 1st game loss (210 – 233) against Glenn, to record a 6-2 victory. Kevin moves into second place on pinfall, while Glenn is in 4th position on 22 points.

Moving into 3rd place and just a point behind is Cheryl, who defeated Mark (6-2). Cheryl’s high game handicap score of 239 came in the 3rd game, which beforehand was evenly poised at 2 points each. (Cheryl taking the 1st game 206 – 187, while Mark replied in the 2nd 228 – 200). Cheryl also took the High Game Handicap Series for the week with a total of 645 and has a match in hand over both Lee and Kevin.

Previous league leader Jason suffered his second defeat of the season as he was beaten 8-0 by Roger. Jason scored an opening 205 scratch in the 1st game, but was still 12 pins short of Rogers 229 total. The second game also saw Jason fall short by 13 pins and then narrowly missing out on 2 points in the final game by just 3 pins. Jason now sits in 5th place in the table on 22 points behind Glenn on pinfall. Roger moves up to 7th place on 20 points.

Maria moved up to 6th position in the table, on 21 points, following an 8-0 win over the improving Dan, with Maria’s total score of 538 exceeding Dan’s 450. While Ian W came from 2 points down to win 6-2 over Lesley in a tightly contested match, which saw the deciding game settled by just 3 pins in Ian’s favour (199 – 196) and the overall total also going to Ian by just 2 pins! (596 – 594). Ian now has 20 points, but importantly has a match in hand over a number of bowlers above him. Lesley is 2 points further back on 18 and in 11th position, but she also has a match in hand.

Ashton continued his solid start to the season with a 7-1 victory over Ben. Having taken the opening 4 points, Ashton ensured the overall total by drawing the final game with Ben with both bowlers scoring 173 overall. Ashton sits in 9th position on 20 points, but still has to bowl blind against Ian W from Week 4, so could move further up the table.

Ian R is in 10th position following a 6-2 defeat to Phil. Again this match was evenly poised at 2 points all after the opening 2 games. Phil taking the opening game (184 – 164), while Ian levelled the match (193 – 166) in the 2nd. Phil then took the third and overall total points with a (196 – 162) 3rd game victory.  Phil sits in 14th position on 14 points.

Looking at Week 5 fixtures, we have a couple of cracking matches – with League Leader Lee paired against 3rd place Cheryl, while Jason will be looking to bounce back after his defeat but faces Ian, who will also be looking to make up points following his loss this week.

Overall the league is still very close with 1st and 14th place separated by just 10 points – so still all to play for.
